"It Takes Two: Supplement Support for Enhancing Egg and Sperm Quality"

1.5 General (Total 1.5 CE)

This presentation will focus on antioxidants and other supplements specifically used for optimizing egg and sperm quality in patients who are trying to conceive (or are planning to do so in the near future). It will address the physiological areas that antioxidants and supplements target when used to optimize gamete health including mitochondrial function, the reduction of ROS, pro-inflammatory cytokines, advanced glycation end products (AGEs), as well as inducing proper cellular function and cell division via sirtuins and mitochondrial health. We will also discuss how other metabolic and inflammatory disorders affect gamete quality, such as insulin resistance, obesity, endometriosis, fibroids, varicoceles, and autoimmune conditions.

Nye HeadshotHaylee Nye, ND

"Endometriosis: Identification, Diagnosis, Treatment, and the New Frontier of Advanced Surgical Care"

1.25 General, 0.25 Pharmacology (Total 1.5 CE)

Endometriosis remains one of the most underdiagnosed and misunderstood contributors to infertility—impacting up to 50% of patients trying to conceive. Its complexity and variability make it a clinical challenge, particularly when patients present without the “classic” symptoms. As clinicians, the stakes are high: delays in diagnosis and treatment can compromise both fertility outcomes and patient well-being.

This session takes a fertility-first look at endometriosis. We’ll explore how it disrupts reproductive function—through inflammation, hormonal disruption, immune dysregulation, and anatomic changes—and how those effects show up uniquely in fertility patients. Clinicians will gain clarity on when to consider imaging, biomarkers, or surgical referral, and how to approach “silent” cases that don’t fit textbook definitions. We’ll compare surgical techniques, review the evidence on outcomes, and clarify which patients benefit from surgery versus going straight to ART.

The session will also cover integrative tools to support ovulation, reduce inflammation, and improve cycle quality, giving you a full-spectrum roadmap to confidently guide fertility patients with suspected or confirmed endometriosis.

Bio: Dr. Haylee Nye is a licensed naturopathic doctor and women’s health expert with a dual degree in Naturopathic Medicine and Clinical Nutrition from the National University of Natural Medicine (NUNM). She’s the founder of Floryn Health, a Portland clinic supporting women in Oregon and Washington through hormonal challenges, fertility struggles, and the full arc of reproductive health, from preconception to perimenopause.

Dr. Nye is known for helping women feel seen, heard, and understood in a system that often leaves them out of the conversation. Her clinical work focuses on conditions like endometriosis, PCOS, infertility, chronic fatigue, gut issues, and cycle irregularities, bringing together evidence-based strategies with holistic, compassionate care.

"The Progesterone Puzzle: Clinical Insights for Fertility Care"

1.25 General, 0.25 Pharmacology (Total 1.5 CE)

The hormonal conditions of endometriosis and polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS) are often approached through addressing estrogen dominance. What would change in our treatment strategies and therapeutic outcomes if we looked, instead, at these conditions through a different lens? New research is discovering that both endometriosis and PCOS are influenced by progesterone resistance and often progesterone deficiency. This leads to the possibility that a patient’s estrogen dominance is only relative to that deficiency/ resistance and not the driving pathology. This lecture will explore the pathophysiology involved in understanding PCOS and endometriosis as progesterone resistant conditions. Guided by two Integrative Fertility experts, this lecture will explore the variety of benefits that can be achieved through approaching these conditions differently and how to apply this information into a fertility or women’s health focused practice.

Bios: Dr. Khivan Oberoi, ND (she/her) specializes in Integrative Fertility care with a focus on Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome and the ethical application of assisted reproductive technologies (ART). In her private practice, she focuses on reproductive endocrinology including fertility and perimenopausal hormone management, blending scientific insight with a systems-oriented approach. A patient and provider of fertility care herself; Dr. Oberoi brings lived understanding to her work and is deeply committed to removing barriers to care, improving access, and offering transparent, affirming guidance throughout each stage of the reproductive journey.

Dr. Stefani Hayes, ND, LAc (she/her) specializes in Integrative Fertility care, with a focus on complex fertility conditions, such as Endometriosis, Recurrent Pregnancy Loss, and Premature Ovarian Insufficiency. She practices at a large integrative natural medicine clinic in Portland, Oregon and addresses complex fertility cases by using an integrative, collaborative, whole-body approach. She is specially trained in the Arvigo Techniques of Maya Abdominal Therapy, as well as skilled in performing non-hormonal Intra-uterine Inseminations (IUI) and intra-uterine Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP). Dr. Stefani’s passion is assisting all types of families in not only realizing their goals of parenthood but also enjoying that time.

Dr. Oberoi and Dr. Hayes have been collaborating together since 2019, starting with co-teaching an Advanced Fertility elective at NUNM with Dr. Windstar. In 2023, they co- founded Art of Fertility (www.art-of-fertility), a professional education platform that provides multiple levels of fertility training and mentorship for medical students and health care professionals interested in learning how to ethically and effectively practice integrative fertility medicine. They are both passionate about increasing access to high quality integrative fertility education for healthcare providers and regularly host preceptors, supervise naturopathic residents and speak at professional conferences.

Lewis HeadshotDanielle Lewis, ND

"Mind-Body Connection and Fertility: Integrative Approaches to Enhance Reproductive Outcomes"

1.5 General (Total 1.5 CE)

Fertility is not solely a physical process; it reflects the dynamic interplay between the endocrine, nervous, and emotional systems. Psychological distress, such as depression and anxiety, is highly prevalent in infertility and can disrupt reproductive hormones, ovulation, and implantation. Emerging evidence demonstrates that mind-body interventions, including cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), mindfulness-based programs, and supportive coaching, significantly reduce stress, depression, and anxiety, and may modestly improve pregnancy and treatment adherence rates.

Complementary therapies such as acupuncture and adaptogenic botanicals also play a pivotal role by modulating the hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal (HPA) axis, improving cortisol balance, enhancing circulation to reproductive organs, and promoting parasympathetic tone. Together, these modalities create a synergistic framework for restoring balance and optimizing fertility outcomes.

This session will synthesize current clinical and research findings (2023–2025) on psychological and natural therapies for fertility-related stress. Attendees will learn how to integrate evidence-based CBT, mindfulness, acupuncture, adaptogens, and lifestyle strategies into individualized fertility plans. The presentation will emphasize practical assessment tools, patient communication, and clinical pearls to help practitioners address the emotional, endocrine, and energetic dimensions of conception.

Bio: Dr. Danielle Lewis, ND, is a naturopathic physician with over 15 years of experience specializing in integrative women’s health, fertility, and hormonal balance. As the founder of Harmony Integrative Healthcare, she blends evidence-based functional medicine with traditional naturopathic principles to help patients achieve lasting wellness.

Dr. Lewis’s expertise bridges the physical and emotional aspects of care by addressing hormones, adrenal function, and stress physiology while incorporating mind-body medicine, acupuncture, and lifestyle interventions. Her clinical interests include fertility optimization, perimenopause, thyroid health, and the role of the HPA axis in reproductive outcomes.

With a background in physical therapy and a deep appreciation for the body’s innate healing capacity, Dr. Lewis empowers her patients to take an active role in their health. She is passionate about advancing integrative fertility care and teaching both patients and practitioners how mindset, stress reduction, and natural therapeutics can enhance reproductive success.

"Sperm Factor Fertility: Herbs to Support Sperm Health and Fertility"

1.5 General (Total 1.5 CEUs)

When people are having trouble conceiving, the focus is often on egg quality, ovulation, and uterine health. But the data shows us that sperm issues play a role in 40%-50% of infertility cases, and the current normal ranges of sperm parameters may not be optimal for achieving a pregnancy. An important piece of a holistic fertility plan is understanding how testosterone affects sperm production, as well as the herbs that can support healthy testosterone and sperm production. This session will focus on how testosterone influences spermatogenesis, the role of oxidative stress and antioxidants in sperm health and highlight evidence-based herbs to support sperm health and fertility. You’ll leave with practical herbal tools and insights to use in your practice.

Bio: Liane Moccia, RH(AHG) is a registered herbalist specializing in fertility and preconception planning. She is the author of The Herbal Fertility Handbook: Holistic Strategies to Improve Your Chances of Getting Pregnant (September 2025). Her work combines herbs, nutrition, and lifestyle changes with a clear plan to help individuals optimize their fertility. Liane’s own infertility diagnosis led her to the healing power of plants and ultimately a career change to help others on similar journeys.

In 2018, Liane was certified as an herbalist by Maria Noel Groves of Wintergreen Botanicals in NH. She has been a registered herbalist with the American Herbalists Guild since 2021. Liane also completed an Integrative Fertility 1-year Mentorship Program with Jaclyn Chasse, ND in 2020. She is a professional member of the American Society of Reproductive Medicine (ASRM), volunteers as an infertility peer support leader and board member for AllPaths Family Building and is an Education Advisor for Wintergreen Botanical’s herbal training programs. She has practiced full-time as a clinical herbalist for 8 years and lives north of Boston with her husband, their twin teenage daughters, and their dog, Luca.

Shen HeadshotXiaoxiong Shen, PhD, LAc

"Diagnosis and Treatment for Infertility in Advanced Maternal Age"

1.5 General (Total 1.5 CE)

The decline in women’s fertility is closely associated with advanced maternal age (AMA), generally defined as older than 35 years. AMA is characterized by reduced ovarian reserve and decreased oocyte competence. Ovarian reserve refers to the remaining reproductive potential within a woman’s ovaries, determined by both the number and quality of available oocytes. Diminished ovarian reserve indicates a loss of normal reproductive potential due to a reduced quantity or compromised quality of the remaining eggs.

This lecture will explore the etiology, pathogenesis, and diagnostic approaches to infertility in women of advanced maternal age from the perspective of integrated traditional Chinese and Western medicine. Drawing upon the classical Chinese medical book Fu Qingzhu’s Gynecology, we will introduce the traditional Chinese medicine differentiation methods and discuss targeted TCM treatments tailored to the different phases of the menstrual cycle. Through the analysis of clinical cases, the lecture will highlight the unique advantages of TCM in enhancing ovarian reserve function and improving the natural pregnancy rate among women of advanced maternal age.

Bio: Dr. Shen, is an exceptional professional in the field of Gynecology, integrating both Eastern and Western medical expertise with over 40 years of clinical experience. He received his Master’s degree in Obstetrics and Gynecology (Ob/Gyn) from Nanjing University of Traditional Chinese Medicine in China. Dr. Shen subsequently served on the faculty of Nanjing University in the Department of Ob/Gyn, where he was part of the gynecologic infertility team involved in clinical care, teaching, and research. He later earned his Ph.D. in Ob/Gyn from Mie University School of Medicine in Japan. His advanced training included a doctoral fellowship in the Department of Gynecology at the University of Tokyo and a post-doctoral fellowship at Vanderbilt University School of Medicine in Tennessee. Dr. Shen also served as a full professor and clinic director at South Baylo University’s School of Herbal Medicine and Acupuncture in California.

Academically, Dr. Shen is highly distinguished, with more than 50 peer-reviewed publications in leading journals such as American Journal of Obstetrics and Gynecology, Journal of Molecular Endocrinology, American Journal of Physiology, and Journal of Traditional Chinese Medicine. He has also contributed significantly to more than six scientific books. Dr. Shen has been invited to lecture internationally, including in Japan, China, Singapore, Canada, various European countries, and the United States.
