This 90-minute lecture delves into the crucial role of perinatal nutrition in the health of both the mother and the developing infant. Medical professionals will gain evidence-based insights into the physiological processes involved in maternal nutrient metabolism, as well as the latest guidelines for optimizing nutritional intake before, during, and after pregnancy. The lecture covers key topics such as the importance of macro and micronutrients, maternal weight gain, the impact of nutrition on pregnancy outcomes (e.g., preeclampsia, gestational diabetes), and fetal development. Special attention will be given to the management of common nutritional deficiencies, strategies for counseling pregnant women on healthy eating, and addressing specific nutritional needs in vegan, vegetarian, and allergen avoidant diets. Emphasizing the lifelong implications of early nutrition, this session aims to equip healthcare providers with practical knowledge to enhance both maternal and infant health outcomes.
