Microbiome, Nutrition, Metabolites and the Immune System

Presenter: Heather Zwickey, PhD

Original Date: September 24, 2022

Nutrition, medications, social interaction and other environmental factors shape the microbiome. As the microbiome responds to the environment, it produces metabolites that interact with many body systems, including the immune system. Exploring pathways by which each of these environmental factors impacts immunity allows us to take control of our health. This seminar will examine different ways to manipulate the microbiome to bring the immune system into balance as we reconnect with each other. Whether through specific oligosaccharides, polyphenols, probiotics, postbiotics, or simply sampling other people’s microbiomes, there are several options to consider for preventing immune-related illness.
