Inflammatory bowel disease used to be called “idiopathic”, but many factors are now known to be involved in causation. This presentation will discuss several: diet and nutrient deficiencies, altered fatty acid metabolism; tobacco smoking, medications (aspirin, NSAIDS, antibiotics, hormone replacement) altered gut microbiota, intestinal mucus and bile metabolism; stress and air pollution.
