"Roots” Homeopathy – Discovering and Reclaiming the Roots of Our Discipline

Presenter: Will Taylor, MD

Original Date: March 20, 2016

In the early years of the 19th century, Samuel Hahnemann proposed a radical revision of medical philosophy and practice, based on an evidence-based approach, to replace the dogmatic medical philosophy & methods of practice of the “old school” medicine of his day. Homeopathic medicine today is most often presented from revisionist perspectives, often by charismatic teachers presenting doctrinal views centered around their proprietary introductions, many of these quite divergent from the insights collected by Hahnemann in the early 19th century. Tensions within the greater homeopathic community have developed around apparent doctrinal conflicts between these revisionist approaches and “old guard” practitioners, who have often been perceived as clinging to conservative doctrine & resisting innovation. In this presentation Dr. Taylor explores what what he prefers to call “roots” homeopathy, looking carefully at the foundational work contributed by Hahnemann and his close colleagues in attempting to revolutionize the medicine of his day, to provide a foundation upon which we can truly build a modern system of practice fully consistent with his vision.
