Why Everything You Know About Addiction is Wrong - A Guide to Addiction Ideologies, Medications, and Herbs

This brief workshop will take the participant on a quick journey on most things related to addiction and substance use disorders. We will review how trauma makes us neurobiologically vulnerable to developing use disorders, as well as why a trauma informed and harm reduction approach is necessary within the world of addiction. We will review the role of stigma in the treatment of addiction, and discuss how and why stigma informs public health policy as well as your clinical practice. We will wrap up with a review of both allopathic medications used in the treatment of use disorders (e.g. buprenorphine. methadone or naltrexone) and common herbs utilized for harm reduction and addiction intervention.
