Sclerotherapy and the Cosmetic Management of Superficial Veins

Presenter: Amy Bader, ND
Original Date: February 8, 2026

Sclerotherapy is a minimally invasive procedure widely recognized as the gold standard for treating superficial telangiectasias, spider veins, and reticular veins. This lecture will review the history, indications, contraindications, and mechanisms of action of sclerotherapy, with a focus on evidence-based best practices for naturopathic and integrative physicians. Clinical technique, sclerosant selection, patient preparation, post-procedure care, and management of common side effects will be discussed. Emphasis will be placed on patient selection, safety considerations, and integration of sclerotherapy into an aesthetic or integrative medical practice. By the end of this session, attendees will gain a clear understanding of how to evaluate appropriate candidates, perform safe treatments, and optimize outcomes for patients seeking cosmetic and therapeutic vein care.
