More Than Skin Deep: A Naturopathic Approach to Treating Acne Presenter: Julie Greenberg, ND
Original Date: February 7, 2026
Acne is the most common skin condition in America affecting up to 50 million people annually. While acne is traditionally thought of as a disease that affects teens, adult acne is on the rise and affects as many as 40% of adults. While most practitioners tend to focus on hormones, there is abundant evidence that a large part of the underlying root cause of acne stems from gut microbiome dysfunction. This presentation will present the latest published research on the gut/skin connection as well as training on how to use functional medicine tests like stool tests and organic acid tests to determine and treat the root cause of acne. Dr. Greenberg will present her clinical research on the specific patterns of gut dysbiosis she sees in acne patients. Case studies with before and after photos will be presented showing how addressing the gut microbiome can lead to resolution of the root cause of acne.
