A relatively new field of study in Western Acupuncture, Orthopedics and Sports Medicine utilizes a combination of Traditional Chinese Medicine and Motor Points to treat both and acute and chronic overuse injuries. Most musculoskeletal injuries show a strong imbalance between agonist and antagonist muscle groups which can produce undue stress on the joints, ligaments and muscles. This pattern creates simultaneous hypertonic and hypotonic muscles, significantly limiting function and which often presents as more obscure muscle pain and a pattern of tense, ropy or fibrous tissue can result which reduce the range and/or quality of joint movement.

This presentation explores some of the basic principles of Orthopedic and Sports Medicine Acupuncture as a treatment strategy for acute and chronic musculoskeletal issues. We will cover both the basic theory and application of acupuncture Motor Point acupuncture using specific techniques as well as a review of several clinical cases. Participants learn how to how to generally apply these principles in the clinical setting.
