When presented with a patient in pain, a thorough examination and survey of potential pain generators needs to be completed. Different tissue types refer pain in characteristic ways that help the practitioner better determine what the problem is and how to treat it. A comprehensive understanding of anatomy and classic physical examination is often far better at reaching an effective diagnosis and good outcome than any particular imaging technique, and far more reassuring to the patient.
