NUNM’s Postgraduate Clinical Nutrition Internship provides CNS-approved Supervised Practice Experience (SPE) to prepare you for the Certified Nutrition Specialist® (CNS) credential. The CNS credential is a pathway to state licensure in Oregon and other states.
Interns will deliver in-person nutrition services alongside expert clinicians, developing professional skills and nutrition care competencies, including nutrition-focused physical examination procedures, health coaching, and nutritional counseling for individuals and groups.
The internship includes 4 hours per week of in-person clinical nutrition experience and supervision to meet the BCNS competencies (up to 72 hours per term). The current clinic shift is scheduled for Fridays, 1-5 p.m. Apply for fall, winter, and/or spring term(s).
Eligibility Requirements:
- Graduate of MScN program at NUNM
- Recommended completion of at least one term of GSN580E Nutrition Clinic Rotation or GSNO581 Virtual Nutrition Clinic Experience (preferred, not required)
- Required immunizations: Tuberculosis screening using T-spot or QuantiFERON Gold testing only (Mantoux tuberculin, AKA “skin test,” is NOT accepted)
- Substance abuse or misuse screening using a 10-panel drug test that must be verified to have been performed by a reputable vendor, which includes: Amphetamines, including methamphetamines; Barbiturates; Benzodiazepines; Cocaine; Marijuana; Methadone; Opiates; Phencyclidine
- State and nationwide background check
- Complete a cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), Basic Life Support (BLS) course at the healthcare provider level. Online training will not meet this requirement.
- Completion of training on the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA)
- Completion of federal OSHA safety guidelines training
